Fully restored, in almost perfect condition and on the move, the Sherman M4A2 (76) W tank has completed the collection of the Patriot Park in Kubinka. After spending more than 70 years under the water column of the Barents Sea, it was raised to the surface by divers of the Northern Fleet.

The tanks lifted from its side are the only surviving variant of the M4A2c medium tank with a 76-mm cannon – M1M4A2 (76) W, which makes them similar in combat characteristics to the legendary T-34-85 tank.

The first tanks of this type began to arrive in the USSR in September 1944 and were immediately sent to the front.

On combat vehicles of this type, Heroes of the Soviet Union, Guards Captain Ivan Ignatievich YAKUSHKIN and Junior Lieutenant Vadim Aleksandrovich SIVKOV fought.

For reference: according to American data, 1990 Sherman tanks with a 75-mm cannon and 2073 with a 76-mm cannon were delivered to the Soviet Union under Lend-Lease. In May 1945, the Red Army also received a number of horizontal suspension tanks, which took part in the defeat of the Kwantung Army.

Armored vehicles of this type took part in the liberation of Ukraine and Belarus, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Austria, in the Budapest operation and the storming of Berlin.
