Due to the marked increase in the number of cases, the government council of the canton of Uri held an extraordinary meeting today to deal with expanded protective measures to combat the coronavirus. The federal government is also currently examining tightening measures. These would apply nationwide for all of Switzerland.
The government council advocates the harmonization of measures by the federal government in the areas of mask requirements, public and private events and home office. Based on the measures adopted by the federal government, the government council will decide on additional measures for the canton of Uri next Tuesday.
The government council once again urges the population to follow the BAG’s instructions on how to contain COVID-19 and to use the SwissCovid app. «The measures of hand hygiene, distance and barrier, e.g. Masks remain the most important factor in the fight against the spread of the virus, ”explains Health Director Christian Arnold. The government council is not concerned with avoiding every single infection, but rather with flattening out the infections so that the health system in particular is not overloaded. At the moment there are practically no difficult courses and only a few hospitalizations in Uri. However, this can change within a short period of time, as examples from other cantons show.
Infections are also increasing in the workplace. It is therefore recommended that companies rely more on home offices or spatial separation of employees.
