MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –
On October 16, a teleconference was held to mark the 75th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It was attended by FAO Director General Qu Dongyu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S.V. Vershinin, Director of the FAO Office for Liaison with the Russian Federation O.Yu. Kobyakov, Permanent Mission of Russia to FAO, the leadership of Russian ministries and departments, as well as rectors specialized institutes.
In his speech, a member of the Board, Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia A.V. Yakovenko noted that in 75 years FAO has come a long way and a new stage in the Organization’s activities will be the Food Systems Summit next year. Russia is taking the most active part in its preparation. The World Forum is called upon to outline new horizons not only for the development of agriculture, but also of food systems in the context of the challenges facing the international community – to defeat hunger by 2030. In this context, we pay special attention to the “green standard” in agricultural production, and we are preparing an appropriate legislative framework …
Russia also plans to take an active part in the new FAO Director General’s “Hand in Hand” initiative, which aims to join forces to help the most vulnerable countries, especially those in the development stage, small developing island states and landlocked countries. FAO provides a platform, technical expertise and a coordinating function to facilitate this work. At the Diplomatic Academy, this topic is led by the School of Sustainable Development and Green Economy.
We will be glad to take an active part in the work of the so-called network of champions of the Summit, which, we hope, will include a Russian representative.
December 5 this year the results of the competition for the World Soil Prize for KD Glinka will be summed up. Let’s hope that the Russian candidate will be able to become its worthy laureate, which will be a recognition of our contribution to the eradication of hunger in the world and FAO’s work in this direction.
