Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.
Prime Ministers Trudeau and Pashinyan discussed the ongoing crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. Prime Minister Trudeau expressed his deep concern regarding the continued fighting and the resulting loss of life, as well as its destabilizing effect in the region. He stressed the importance that all parties engage in dialogue and diplomacy in seeking a peaceful, negotiated resolution to the conflict which cannot be solved by military means. Prime Minister Trudeau voiced his strong support for mediation efforts by the international community, including the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
Both leaders also discussed the COVID-19 situation and their respective efforts to protect the health and well-being of their citizens.
The two leaders looked forward to continued cooperation between Canada and Armenia to advance shared priorities, including international peace and security.
