For the market launch of the fifth generation of the BMW electrification kit, the customer range of BMW Charging and MINI Charging will be expanded and supplemented: when charging at home, charging at work or charging publicly, innovative charging solutions and digital services are available for easy and convenient charging for every customer requirement.

Since the market launch of the BMW i3 in 2013, BMW has established and gradually expanded a comprehensive range of customers with “360 ° Electric”. BMW Charging goes one step further from Gen5. When starting up the fully electric BMW iX3 *, for example, customers can put together their own individual charging solution for their specific usage profile during configuration and then have it delivered or installed – from homeowners to the ‘lantern parker’ to the operator of a commercial fleet of electric vehicles. “

The portfolio is complemented by innovative concepts based on many years of expertise in the field of digitization and electric mobility. With services such as eDrive Zones and BMW Points, plug-in hybrid drivers, for example, are supported in using their vehicle efficiently and therefore in an environmentally friendly manner.

For charging at home, the range has been expanded with the new BMW Flexible Fast Charger, which is available for the first time for the iX3 *. With an exchangeable adapter solution, the Flexible Fast Charger can be used at a household socket or at an industrial socket with up to 11 kW charging power. Whether at home or while traveling, the Flexible Charger adapts to the respective charging infrastructure. The powerful BMW Wallbox with up to 22 kW charging capacity can be purchased as an option. For customers who bill their charging costs or want to integrate a wallbox into their home energy management, BMW Charging offers the smart partner wallbox with market-specific partners. The range of functions of the wallbox can be expanded with cloud services. All charging solutions can be combined with a comprehensive installation package at a fixed price (with the corresponding structural requirements). A green electricity tariff is also part of the offer.

For charging in public spaces, BMW and MINI drivers can use the BMW and MINI Charging Card with around 450,000 charging points, one of the world’s largest charging networks. In Germany alone there is access to around 24,000 charging points, in Europe there are over 160,000 charging points. A charging point display in the navigation system and app makes planning easier. From the BMW iX3 *, customers receive the BMW Charging Card together with their vehicle, including a one-year charging subscription without a basic fee and, in the EU, a standard charging cable for the use of public charging stations. With this equipment, the customer can use the respective AC, DC and High Power Charging charging stations across Europe at transparent, uniform and affordable prices.

The High Power Charging offer from BMW Charging includes the charging offer from our partner IONITY. The IONITY fast charging stations are located on motorways and main traffic axes and enable super-fast charging with charging capacities of up to 350 kW at a distance of approx. 120 kilometers. This means, for example, that a BMW iX3 * can be recharged to 80% within 34 minutes. Over 400 charging stations with a total of 2,000 charging points will be ready by 2022.

BMW Charging also bundles charging offers for fleet customers and company car users. From the needs analysis to the installation to operation and billing, a holistic coverage of the charging needs is guaranteed: The vehicle users can charge billable at home, at work and in public spaces using a uniform charging card. An intelligent wallbox including a billing solution that complies with calibration law is available for home charging. The offers are implemented by market-specific partners of the BMW Group.

The BMW Group has implemented a pilot application of shop at the workplace in-house. By 2021, 4,100 charging points will be set up at BMW locations in Germany, around 50% of which will be publicly accessible. Billing with the standardized BMW Group Corporate Charging Card or app at the BMW employee rate and other services, such as a connected home charging function with an intelligent wallbox, complement this previously unprecedented project. The concept will be rolled out in other European countries over the next few years.

eDrive Zones, BMW Points and more: the digital service features BMW and MINI offer a wide range of digital services for everything to do with e-mobility. Since the latest version of the BMW Operating System, the digital services have been expanded to include additional charging functions.

From the iX3 *, route guidance is carried out using the intelligent charging service eRouting. This also includes the calculation of the expected charging costs and a presentation of the quality profile of charging stations. A number of other functions in the central display as well as the myBMW app and the BMW Charging app, which provide a complete overview of the charging history and range, complete the charging experience.

This year, the focus is on digital services for plug-in hybrids (PHEV): Since the fourth generation of BMW plug-in hybrids, more and more models have been equipped with a pioneering geo-fencing function that allows vehicles to Detect environmental zones independently and automatically switch to purely electric operating mode when entering eDrive Zones, depending on the charge level. This step takes place automatically and does not require active intervention by the driver. Thanks to this innovative operating strategy, PHEVs can drive locally emission-free, especially in urban areas, and at the same time significantly reduce noise emissions and operating costs for the vehicle owner.

BMW Points is a loyalty program that rewards the drivers of selected PHEVs for a high proportion of electric driving by awarding bonus points. One BMW Point is credited for every electrically driven kilometer. In the eDrive Zones, two BMW Points are even credited for each electrically driven kilometer. The points collected can be redeemed for BMW Charging credits. The PHEV customer is thus rewarded for frequent electric driving with free charging current.
