October 14 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Mali.

Our countries are linked by long-standing relations of friendship and cooperation. Russia took an active part in gaining independence and the formation of Malian statehood, rendered significant assistance in the implementation of large economic projects, the construction of civil infrastructure, geological exploration, and the development of agricultural land. Based on the accumulated solid experience of interaction of the past years, proactive steps are being taken with a view to sustainable and dynamic development already in the new conditions of Russian-Malian ties in trade, economic, humanitarian and other fields.

A regular political dialogue is maintained between Russia and Mali, including on the basis of the Protocol on inter-ministerial consultations signed in May 1994. A good basis for interaction is the proximity of positions on most topical issues of world and regional politics, including the formation of a polycentric world order, strengthening the central role of the UN in ensuring global stability and security. The results of the stay of the high Malian delegation at the Russia-Africa summit held in Sochi in October 2019 made it possible to give a noticeable impetus to the further strengthening of Russian-Malian relations. The talks between the heads of the foreign ministries of Russia and Mali in Moscow in June 2019 were also intense and fruitful. They are aimed at continuing close and productive coordination with Malian partners in international structures.

Our common priority is to build up trade and economic cooperation. Additional joint steps are being taken to identify mutually beneficial business partnership projects in such promising areas as exploration and development of mineral resources, energy, and infrastructure.

The good dynamics of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation inspires optimism, which is of fundamental importance for Mali, which is forced to confront numerous security challenges and threats in the Sahara-Sahel region. The practice of training Malian military personnel continues in the universities of the Russian Defense Ministry and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The field of education occupies a special place in bilateral relations. We state with satisfaction that the Malian specialists who have been trained in the universities of our country, and this is more than 10 thousand people, are actively and successfully participating in solving the socio-economic problems facing Mali.

We are convinced that by joint efforts we will be able to ensure the further progressive development of the entire range of time-tested Russian-Malian ties for the benefit of the peoples of both states, in the interests of ensuring peace, security and stability on the African continent.

We know that Mali is going through difficult times today. We would like to congratulate our Malian friends on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, wish Mali a successful overcoming of the current difficult period in its history on the basis of achieving national consensus, success in ensuring the speedy revival of the country, restoring Bamako’s active role in international affairs, peace, prosperity and well-being.
