SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood has today welcomed the decision of SDLP Minister Nichola Mallon who has recommended planning approval for Casement Park.
The SDLP Leader and Foyle MP said:
“What a day for the GAA – for fans, players, clubs – for our community as a whole. The long awaited planning decision on Casement Park has been granted by SDLP Minister Nichola Mallon.
“Wasting no time after three years of the Stormont stalemate, Nichola has acted to carefully consider all aspects of this complex application and has come to a determination to recommend planning approval.
“This is a truly significant moment for GAA fans across the island of Ireland, finally in Ulster we will have a stadium fit for the outstanding calibre of sport the GAA brings. What this decision represents to clubs and communities across the north cannot be underestimated. It is a big day for the GAA, it is a big day for this part of Island. I look forward to working in partnership to see the delivery of this project now that this critical progress has been made. The SDLP will work with all others to ensure this vital project is fully funded.”
