MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

October 9 this year The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to fight hunger and contribute to improving conditions for peace in conflict-affected regions. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sent a congratulatory message on this occasion to WFP Executive Director D. Beazley.

Relations between the Russian Federation and WFP have been dynamically developing since the early 2000s. The volumes of our cooperation are increasing, its geography is expanding, and the quality is also changing. Today, WFP is the main multilateral channel through which Russia provides food assistance to the needy population of other countries. From 2003 to 2020, the total amount of Russian voluntary contributions to the WFP fund exceeded $ 450 million.

We also actively cooperate with the WFP in the implementation of projects “at the junction” of humanitarian aid and development, including in the field of school meals. Such projects have been launched in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and since 2020 – in Cuba and Nicaragua. In total, 2010 – 2023 the allocation of $ 95.1 million is envisaged for these purposes.

In January 2020, a $ 20 million food aid project was launched for Syria.

Russia donated 355 KAMAZ trucks as a voluntary in-kind contribution to the Program.

We are determined to further develop constructive cooperation with the Program.
