Princess Margaret Hospital has apologised for an incident involving the handling of specimens.
The hospital said 10 deep throat saliva specimens submitted on October 10, which were scheduled to be sent to the laboratory for COVID-19 testing on the same day, were found at the hospital’s collection point this morning.
As the specimens had not been sent to the laboratory immediately, the hospital has contacted all individuals concerned to resubmit deep throat saliva or nasopharyngeal swab specimens to ensure the accuracy of the test results.
The hospital is highly concerned about the incident and reported the case to the Hospital Authority Head Office.
Staff training will be enhanced and the workflow for handling specimens reviewed at the hospital, with improvement measures to be proposed to prevent similar incidents from happening.
