PEORIA – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) released the following statement on additional COVID-19 relief.
“It’s unacceptable that Speaker Pelosi recessed the U.S. House of Representatives until the middle of November, while businesses, workers, and families in Illinois continue to struggle because of the COVID-19 pandemic and state-mandated closures. Every day that I am home traveling the 18th District, I hear from businesses that will close and workers that will not have jobs to return to, resulting in rural and smaller communities being decimated if Congress does not act.
“Today, I’m calling on Congress to return to session immediately and on Democrats to work in a meaningful, bipartisan way to provide support to the many in our communities that need immediate relief. This includes passing my bipartisan CERTS Act, which will provide relief to the motor coach industry, passing my bipartisan Clean Start Back to Work Tax Credit Act, which will help businesses cover the increased costs of cleaning and opening safely, extending the 45B tax credit to the salon industry, which will provide parity with restaurants and an immediate cash infusion to these small businesses, and extending the Paycheck Protection Program, among other priorities. Illinoisans cannot wait while politicians in Washington continue to play politics with this pandemic.”
