Legally secure new regulation in package travel law must come promptly
For package travelers affected by the Thomas Cook insolvency, the deadline for registering the use of voluntary compensation payments from the federal government ends on November 15, 2020. The consumer protection officer of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Sebastian Steineke, explains:
“Only until November 15, 2020 can injured parties affected by the Thomas Cook bankruptcy register in the Federal Government’s Thomas Cook portal. It is therefore important that all those affected who have not yet done so take action promptly and register there. The free online registration process has been available since May 6th. On the homepage of the Federal Ministry of Justice you can find a guide that contains all the key information and provides assistance: https://www.bmjv.de/SharedDocs/Artikel/DE/2019/TC/121119_ThomasCook.html.
The federal government will compensate the Thomas Cook customers affected by the insolvency because the previous negligent implementation of the package travel guideline resulted in claims under state liability law. So that such mistakes do not happen again, we need legally secure new regulations in package travel law as soon as possible. “
