Source: Swiss Canton of Uri – news in German

October 8, 2020

24 people are currently infected with the Covid-19 virus in the canton of Uri. This corresponds to an increase of 18 cases in the last seven days. In addition, 120 people are in quarantine, 36 of whom are returning from a risk area.

Similar to other cantons, the number of Covid 19 cases is also increasing significantly in Uri. The 24 people currently infected are spread across various sources of infection in the canton of Uri. In its current assessment of the situation, the cantonal special staff states that the increase in the number of cases over the past seven days has exceeded the threshold from green to yellow (special phase). However, the situation is still under control. The well-functioning contact tracing in the canton of Uri, with which the infection chains can be quickly and effectively interrupted, contributes to this.

The latest development in the number of cases in the canton of Uri worries the special staff. He is therefore examining the question of what measures can be taken to prevent a situation like the one in spring 2020 from occurring again. In the event that the number of infections in the canton of Uri should continue to increase, selective orders must be considered in order to prevent significantly stricter measures being taken across the board at a later point in time. The special staff therefore calls on the people of Uri to comply with the distance and hygiene rules even more consistently than before. This applies in particular to work, shopping, visits to restaurants, leisure activities and meetings with family and friends as well as club and board events. In terms of personal responsibility, it is also recommended to wear a mask when there are large gatherings of people or when the distances cannot be maintained – especially in closed rooms. With the arrival of the colder season, it is also important that the rooms are regularly well ventilated (so-called shock ventilation).

All quarantine measures that had to be taken two weeks ago in connection with a private event in the canton of Uri have now been lifted. Over 130 people were affected, which led to greater media interest. The Covid-19 special staff will take the now closed event as an opportunity to review internal preparations and processes over the next few days and adjust them where necessary. What remains unchanged is that the individual responsibility of the population is in the foreground and restrictive measures are only taken where necessary. Ultimately, their aim is to ensure that other people or companies do not suffer from the consequences of the virus spreading.

The Conference of Central Switzerland Health Directors (ZGDK) also exchanges weekly information about the current Corona situation in their cantons. The subject of the latest agreement was, among other things, the intercantonal coordination of necessary quarantine decisions. The cantons of central Switzerland have agreed that in future the cross-cantonal implementation of the quarantine measures will be better discussed. The quarantine requirements of the BAG still apply. This is to prevent ambiguities and misunderstandings in the execution, which is ultimately in the interests of the people concerned and the economy.
