Bogotá (Oct. 8/20). The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Echeverri, led the V meeting of the political consultation mechanism between Colombia and Vietnam, together with his Vietnamese counterpart, the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bui Thanh Son.

During the virtual meeting held on October 8, key issues of the bilateral relationship were addressed, such as the scheduling of high-level visits in both directions once the COVID-19 pandemic had been overcome, the importance of the establishment of the Vietnamese Embassy in our country, the diversification of Colombian products in the Vietnamese market through the promotion of the admissibility processes that are underway, and the exemption of visas.

In terms of cooperation, emphasis was placed on the interest in advancing in the negotiations to achieve the signing of the memorandum of understanding on South-South cooperation. Likewise, there was a dialogue on instruments in the field of agriculture, tourism, diplomatic academies, culture and education, trade and investment.

Regarding the regional and multilateral agenda, issues related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and the joint work between the Pacific Alliance and ASEAN with the in order to strengthen the relationship between both regions.

The political consultation mechanism between Colombia and Vietnam was established in 2012. Since then, four meetings have been held: in 2012 and 2018 in Hanoi, and in 2014 and 2016 in Bogotá.
