A special fire brigade was created in the difficult conditions of the post-war period. On October 9, 1947, by order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a special department was formed as part of the Main Directorate of Fire Protection to provide fire protection for the complex of production facilities for creating the latest weapons: enterprises, research institutions, closed cities and towns.
The special fire brigade has gone through a long and difficult path of formation and development from several divisions to a highly efficient developed unified system with a well-established management and staff structure.
Currently, the Special Fire Service includes 51 independent special divisions, including 1 forensic expert institution. The units provide protection for 38 closed administrative-territorial entities and over 300 critical facilities.
The combination of deep knowledge with practical experience allows the personnel to successfully fulfill their assigned duties and carry out professional activities for the benefit of our country. Every day, special units ensure the implementation of the most important state programs on the development of the military-industrial and nuclear power-industrial complexes, space activities, the aviation, pharmaceutical industries and a number of others by protected objects.
Among the priority areas of work is ensuring fire safety at the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear thermal power plant, the first Russian Vostochny cosmodrome, and the Baikonur complex. Also, advanced technologies are being developed and implemented in the field of prevention and elimination of natural and man-made emergencies, ensuring fire safety.
The personnel of special units, which is more than 20 thousand people, successfully solve the assigned tasks, multiplying the glorious military traditions and honestly fulfilling their official duty.
One cannot fail to note the significant contribution of veterans to the establishment of the Special Fire Department. They pass on their experience and knowledge to worthy successors of the traditions of this noble profession.
