Source: Die Linke “Electricity blocks must finally be banned by law. Without electricity, lights, refrigerators, stoves and often the heating will not work. An apartment is then uninhabitable, ”explains Amira Mohamed Ali, chairman of the DIE LINKE parliamentary group, on the occasion of the Federal Network Agency’s monitoring report on power cuts. Mohamed Ali continues: “The federal government is ignoring the social disaster of the power cuts and claims that basic security and Hartz IV are sufficient for the energy supply. The roughly 791 power cuts per day show that this does not correspond to reality. A ban can be threatened and enforced from as little as 100 euros. For interrupting and restoring the energy supply, an average of around 100 euros is then required from the customer. This is a rip off and not infrequently leads into a spiral of debt. Ultimately, the electricity supply companies have to be transferred to the hands of the state. Basic goods such as energy, water and health care should not be left to the greed of private companies.

Additional information: The DIE LINKE parliamentary group in the Bundestag has applied for electricity blocking to be prohibited by law (Btg-Drs .: 19/14334). This is currently being discussed in the Labor and Social Affairs Committee.
