In the Moscow region, at the Alabino training ground, for the engineering units of the Guards Tank Red Banner Army of the Western Military District (ZVO), a unique fire and assault strip (OSHP) was prepared, which became a real test of the professional skills of military personnel.

As part of a field training session with engineers from the Taman Motorized Rifle Division, the standard OSHP was modernized and expanded. The new runway became 150 meters longer and approached the 550 meter mark. It includes over 40 obstacles of varying difficulty. A two-meter wall, a cable car, a suspension bridge, a destroyed building, a labyrinth, a section of barbed wire – all this had to be overcome by assault groups in full gear with more than 10 kilograms of additional weight, with AK-74M assault rifles and Kalashnikov machine guns at the ready.

The fire assault strip is only one of the stages in the training of military engineers in the field. In addition to overcoming the strip, the servicemen need to equip more than 3 km of column tracks, deploy a heavy mechanized bridge (TMM) to overcome the ravine and clear about a dozen complex forest debris even in a forest fire using IMR-3 engineering vehicles.

More than 400 servicemen took part in the most difficult training on the fire-assault strip, about 60 units of military and special equipment were involved. A field training session with military engineers is under the guidance of Colonel Nikolai Ovcharenko, chief of engineering troops of the Guards Tank Army of the Western Military District.
