The crews of the Mi-8 transport and combat helicopters of the Central Military District (CVD) carried out the transportation of light wheeled vehicles, artillery pieces and the delivery of humanitarian cargo on an external sling to hard-to-reach areas during an exercise in the Chelyabinsk region.

As part of the exercise, the helicopter pilots practiced securing, lifting and transporting cargo simulating light wheeled vehicles, artillery pieces, as well as cargo containers with humanitarian aid. The use of external suspension of helicopters increases the mobility of motorized rifle and artillery units, and also allows the rapid delivery of humanitarian aid to hard-to-reach areas of mountainous and taiga terrain.

During the event, the Mi-8 crews paid special attention to the transportation of the spacecraft’s rescue capsule. The pilots of the Central Military District will have to face this task in the second half of October while ensuring the landing of the descent vehicle of the Soyuz MS-16 spacecraft.

The flight tactical exercise was held as part of the final check during the summer training period, about 100 military personnel from among the flight, engineering and technical personnel, and the flight support and control group took part in it, 11 Mi-8 helicopters equipped with devices for transporting goods to external suspension.

Earlier, the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, said that in October, as part of the control check of the troops during the summer training period, more than 10 large exercises with the participation of large formations, formations and military units of the Central Military District will be held at training ranges in Bashkiria, Udmurtia, Tuva, and Kemerovo , Novosibirsk, Orenburg, Samara, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions.
