Two youths have been arrested following a break-in at Unley and a car fire at Smithfield.

Just after 2.30am on Thursday 8 October, an Unley resident woke to hear noises inside their Miller Street home and then their car being started and driven out of their driveway. The keys to their silver 2004 Mazda wagon XAS-723 had been stolen in the break-in with the vehicle last seen heading towards King William Road.

At about 3.15am police patrols were called to Wellington Square North Adelaide, after three to four youths were disturbed breaking into a car, they jumped in the silver Mazda wagon stolen from Unley, after stealing over $3,000 worth of power tools.

The just before 5am, Northern District patrols were called to Wahroonga  Drive near the Munno Para shops, following reports of a car on fire.  A patrol was nearby and spotted two teenage boys not far from the scene, as they saw the police patrol they ran off.  A foot pursuit through a park in wet slippery conditions finished with both youths being arrested.

The 13-year-old boy from Elizabeth Grove and a 16-year-old boy from Davoren Park are currently being questioned over the car fire and the other offending.  Police patrols have viewed CCTV from the area which shows up to four youths involved in setting the stolen car alight.  Investigations are continuing to locate the two remaining offenders.  The Mazda wagon was completely destroyed in the blaze.
