A driver has fled the scene of a crash in Thornbury this morning leaving their passenger injured and unconscious at the scene.

Police were called to the crash on Flinders Street following reports a vehicle had struck a parked truck causing extensive damage about 1.20am.

Attending police found the 16-year-old female passenger injured and still in the vehicle before discovering the female driver had fled.

The teenager has been taken to hospital for treatment to what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

A search of the area failed to find the driver.

Police are also investigating whether the same vehicle drove off from police late last night in Richmond.

It’s believed three or four people were in the car, at that time, and were seen looking into parked cars in Crown Street with torches; they were also seen to smash a window of a car.

When police arrived the car speed off at a fast rate of speed down Bridge Road.

Police are appealing for the driver and for anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or log onto
