Climate protection pioneer honored in Berlin / renamed “Initiative for energy efficiency and climate protection networks”

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) are today awarding three energy efficiency networks with a special focus on climate protection: the “VEA / IHK REGINEE Emsland”, the “ETA-Plus” and the “Network Energy and Resource efficiency Hanse ”. The awards will be presented this afternoon as part of the annual virtual event of the Energy Efficiency Networks initiative with over 250 online participants. Secretary of State for Energy Andreas Feicht: “The award-winning networks impressively show how much innovative strength arises when companies voluntarily advance energy efficiency and climate protection. They are a figurehead for the performance and innovation potential of the German economy. At the same time, they strengthen their competitiveness and make an important contribution to achieving Germany’s climate protection goals. ”State Secretary for the Environment Jochen Flasbarth:“ In terms of energy efficiency, we have to become much better overall. Many companies therefore want to integrate climate protection more closely into the work of the networks in the future. That is an important signal. Learning from one another, using energy and resources efficiently – that makes climate protection a success. This is what today’s award-winning networks stand for. ”The Deputy Managing Director of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) Dr. Achim Dercks: “Companies benefit from their involvement in energy efficiency networks. Not only the specific energy saving pays off, the build-up of know-how among the company’s own specialists is also one of the pluses. The award-winning energy efficiency networks clearly show how much innovative potential the topic of energy efficiency holds for climate protection and for companies. ”Over 40 companies participate in the three award-winning networks. Together they save around 100,000 megawatt hours of energy. In addition to improving energy efficiency, the award-winning companies are already particularly committed to climate protection. For example, the use of innovative catalysts for the removal of biofilms in water increases energy efficiency and reduces the use of chemicals, saving greenhouse gases. The network is also working on the use of coffee grounds to generate energy.
