The residents of the capital took part in the work on the creation of new generation cars, who expressed their suggestions and comments.
“This was, in fact, a massive discussion of the further development of Moscow Metro trains. And today we are behind the product of this discussion, new requirements and labor of designers and machine builders, ”added the Moscow Mayor.
In the coming years, the Moscow metro will purchase over 170 more trains (more than 1,300 cars) of the new generation “Moscow-2020”. This will allow by 2023 to reduce the average age of carriages from 15 to 10 years, and the number of modern trains will exceed 80 percent.
On the Ring Line in 2021, the rolling stock will be completely renewed due to the launch of trains “Moscow-2020”, and in 2023 – on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line. More than 1.7 million passengers of both branches will be able to use the new trains every day. Moscow will have the youngest metro car fleet in comparison with the subways of Europe and America.
Moscow-2020 trains will run on the Koltsevaya, Bolshaya Koltsevaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya metro lines.
Among the main advantages of the train are the following:
– the width of the doors is 160 centimeters instead of 125 (28 percent more). This will speed up the entry and exit of cars by 20 percent;
– the width of the inter-car passage – 160 centimeters (for the first time on the Circle Line);
– the latest passenger information system with enlarged LCD displays with a line diagram above the doors, new information displays in consoles under the ceiling, a system of LCD monitors on the walls, enlarged touch screens for planning routes;
– side route boards outside the train;
– for the first time in wagons on the Ring Line, there will be USB connectors for charging gadgets (320 units), sockets are located between the seats;
– The noise level is 15 percent lower compared to earlier train models.
According to the results of the competition, the train manufacturer is the Mytishchi enterprise Metrowagonmash (Transmashholding), a supplier of rolling stock for the Moscow metro since 1935.
The first train “Moscow-2020” passed certification and acceptance tests, as well as a test run. It was evaluated by dozens of parameters. Some concerned the safety and reliability of the line, others – the comfort of passengers and the driver.
Experts paid attention to almost everything: from the smoothness of the ride and the length of the braking distance to the quality of cleaning the windshield, the level of illumination and vibration in the cabin. The drivers of the Moscow Metro took an active part in the tests. Test result: the train fully complies with the technical requirements for it.
The Circle Line has adopted innovations more than once in the history of the Moscow metro. In 1953, the names of stations began to be announced on the trains, in 1973 the first train was driven by one driver – without an assistant, and five years later trains of the 81-717 series (“Numbered”) began to run on the line, which became the basis for many years of the metro car park of the capital. Trains on the Circle Line were the first to be equipped with autoinformators – tape recorders to announce stations; for the first time, the voices of professional announcers sounded in the carriages of the Moscow metro.
Next Generation Trains: Delivery Schedule
In the coming years, the train fleet on the Ring and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya metro lines will be completely renewed. On the Circle Line, these will be only trains “Moscow-2020”, on Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya – “Moscow” and “Moscow-2020”. On the Big Circle Line, passengers will be transported by modern trains of three types: Oka, Moskva and Moskva-2020.
On the Ring Line, the renewal of rolling stock is planned to be completed in 2021, on Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya – in 2023.
This year, 25 Moscow-2020 trains will arrive on the Koltsevaya Line, which will replace the Rusich series trains. Thus, more than 70 percent of the Koltsevaya Line fleet will consist of the latest trains. The renewal of the fleet will be completed next year, when 15 more such trains will be launched on the line.
By the end of the year, 20 trains of the Moscow-2020 train will arrive on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line. By that time, the fleet of the orange line will be renewed by more than 40 percent, including taking into account the previously launched Moskva trains. The rolling stock is going to be completely renewed by the end of 2023: 16 sets of new trains will be delivered in 2021, 24 trains in 2022, and 18 trains in 2023.
It is planned to launch 13 trains on the Big Circle Line in 2021, 18 trains in 2022, and 23 trains a year later.
“Moscow-2020”: opportunities and design
The Moscow-2020 train looks different from its predecessor, the Moscow train. The design of the mask of the new composition was chosen by the townspeople during the voting, which took place in the exhibition pavilion of the Moscow Central Diameters at the Kievsky railway station and in social networks. The variant that received the most votes was developed in cooperation with the world famous Italian company in the field of industrial design – ItalDesign, which cooperates with major global vehicle manufacturers such as Audi, Airbus, Nissan, McLaren, Lamborghini.
For the first time in the history of the Moscow metro, the name of the final station of the train will be displayed on the outside on the sides of the cars, this will allow passengers to better navigate the station.
“This train is quieter, more comfortable, with wide door openings, which makes it easier to get in and out of it. And, I am sure, this is one of the best trains in the metro, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.
The doorways in the carriages have become 15 percent wider compared to the Moskva train: they have increased from 1.4 to a record 1.6 meters. In comparison with the Rusich trains (doorway width – 1.25 meters), the increase was 28 percent. Such a decision is very important for the Moscow metro with its heavy workload and minimal intervals of movement during rush hours, because it will speed up the entry and exit of passengers from the cars by 20 percent.
The glass area of the doors has also become larger: from the outside it is 100 percent, and when viewed from the salon – 82 percent. In “Moscow-2019” this figure is 47 percent. The large glass area of the doors gives passengers the feeling of maximum open space and safety.
In addition, the Moscow 2020 trains have a 15 percent lower noise level compared to earlier models.
The design of the doors was also changed: instead of lean-to-slide doors, sliding doors were installed in the new cars. The door drive design has also become more reliable. LED strips are installed in the doors, which will signal to passengers about opening and closing doors. The latter are equipped with an anti-grip system.
“Indeed, the train differs from everything that was previously produced and operated in all subways, we can say that even the whole world. This is a train in which a through passage is provided from the first car to the last. And the most important thing is that when you pass this train, you never meet any obstacles. That is, even in the inter-car connection there are no more narrowings, this passage is exactly the same size as the entrance doors in this rolling stock – 1600 millimeters, ”said Kirill Lipa, General Director of CJSC Transmashholding.
The Moscow-2020 train is equipped with an updated video surveillance system. Each carriage has eight cameras and equipment for communication with a single dispatch center. Video and audio information will be immediately transmitted there, which will speed up the response time of metro and police officers in any non-standard situation.
The passenger compartment: ergonomics, comfort and safety
Trains “Moscow-2020” are equipped with an automatic air disinfection system, like all metro cars purchased in recent years.
Each car has two air disinfection units built into the climate control system: 14 units are in a seven-car train and 16 in an eight-car train. These are compact high-tech devices with amalgam germicidal ultraviolet lamps, the same as in specialized medical institutions.
For the first time in the Moscow metro, console LCD displays under the ceiling will be used to inform passengers. The text is well read from anywhere in the cabin due to the high definition of the image and a wide viewing angle.
56-inch over-door displays, 17 percent larger than those on the Moskva train, will help you navigate the journey. There were no such boards on the trains on the Circle Line. Instead, the Rusichi used a linear LED scale, on top of which was glued a line diagram showing the stations.
A new technical solution to improve navigation will be LED interior lighting (under the seats and above the windows). It will be the color of the line along which the train is traveling.
For the first time, trains will have interactive touch displays with maps for route planning. In the new train, the touch screens are enlarged by 1.4 times (instead of a diagonal of 19 inches, now 27 inches), the sensor has become more responsive. In addition to Russian, the display can select any of eight languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Kazakh, Tajik or Uzbek.
“Navigation systems in many languages are used here, that is, almost all the languages of the former Soviet Union are used today to orient the passenger, to help him move within the complex system of the Moscow metro. This train is designed to really become new in all technical and operational characteristics, to improve the quality and safety of passenger traffic, “added Kirill Lipa.
One of the notable changes for the passengers of the Ring Line will be the appearance in the train cabin of USB ports for charging gadgets, there will be 320 of them. Connectors can be found between the seats in the form of blocks with two ports. As a result, even with the maximum load of the train, every fourth passenger will be able to charge a phone or tablet.
The interior colors will also change. The warm, ergonomic handrails and seat upholstery are now painted in a soft rose gold color, chosen by experts from among passengers and designers. If in the previous “Moscow” the handrails were partially covered with warm material, then in the train of the new generation – already completely. The seat upholstery in Moscow 2020 is decorated with a pattern of the Moscow Metro logos.
Riding while standing will also be comfortable. The floor covering is anti-slip. A well-thought-out system of handrails does not take up much space, and you can reach the nearest one from anywhere in the cabin. The handrails are now warm along their entire length, thanks to which travel will be comfortable for small passengers. For the first time, seating next to doors will be separated from standing glass screens.
Also, in the new trains, inter-car passages have been expanded – up to 1.6 meters, which is 57 percent more than in the previous version. There were no such passages between cars on trains on the Circle Line. Outside rush hours, this novelty is enough for passengers going towards each other to disperse freely, and the entire train from the first to the last carriage was perceived as a single space without bottlenecks.
Driver’s cab: everything under control
The driver can now enter the cab with an individual access card, which is also used to launch an integrated traffic control and safety system.
The driver’s control panel in the new generation train has improved ergonomic characteristics, and the buttons have become almost half the size of the Moscow train thanks to widescreen touch monitors.
At the driver’s seat, you can adjust the seat and armrests in height, you can change the position of the back. In addition, there is a lumbar support adjustment system and three modes of damping system rigidity. The seat has a heating function, like the windshield with a footrest.
The cab is equipped with a driver’s vigilance control: a pedal and a vigilance button. There are systems of intelligent support with visual and audio information about malfunctions and the operation of all rolling stock systems. In any emergency situation, the train itself will tell the driver the best way out of the situation.
In addition, the cab is adapted to the “Antisone” system, which, online, constantly monitors the state of the driver while driving. All trains and the entire fleet of surface urban transport are equipped with this system; it has no analogues anywhere in the world.
Four video surveillance cameras are installed in the driver’s cab: one monitors the situation in the cab, the second is directed to the track, the third controls the work of the driver, and the fourth controls the coupling zone. Data on the movement and condition of the train is transmitted to the unified dispatch center of the Moscow Metro online.
Comparison with foreign counterparts
The new generation train surpasses not only its predecessor in a number of characteristics, but also many foreign analogues, including Siemens Inspiro, Alstom S9000, Hyundai Rotem H10, CAF M300. For example, the width of the doorway of a domestic train is 23 percent larger; in terms of capacity, it surpasses most of the listed analogues. The cost of a new train is one of the important advantages. The closest competitor, the Hyundai Rotem H10, is more than 30 percent more expensive.
Among the listed train models, only the new Moscow-2020 train has an early smoke detection system and interactive displays for navigation, and individual USB connectors for charging gadgets near each seat – like the novelty for the Moscow metro – are only in the newest Hyundai cars. Rotem H10.
