Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met with Viktor Medvedchuk, Chairman of the Political Council of the Ukrainian Opposition Platform – For Life Party.
“I am glad to welcome you to the Government of the Russian Federation. I want to say that your movement “Opposition Platform – For Life” has long and consistently advocated strengthening our trade and economic ties and, most importantly, for the return of normal communication between people. Because this is probably the most important thing – cultural and historical values between our peoples. They strengthen the relationship, ”said Mikhail Mishustin opening the meeting.
The head of the political council of the Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform – For Life” thanked the Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet.
“The relations that have developed in recent years are not just not the best, they are extremely negative between our countries and, unfortunately, between individuals. But, believe me, there are enough people in Ukraine who treat Russia well, who believe that the times when we had both trade, economic and friendly relations between the countries will return, ”Viktor Medvedchuk said.
When Ukraine joined the sanctions against Russia, it took the wrong path for itself – extremely negative for the development of the economy, the Ukrainian politician is sure.
The chairman of the political council of the Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform – For Life” asked the Prime Minister to consider the possibility of partial lifting of sanctions against industrial enterprises, as well as against the League of Machine Builders, which unites 240 enterprises.
Some of these enterprises, which work in the field of heavy engineering, radio engineering, agricultural engineering, as well as enterprises of the paper and pulp, wine industry, really suffer from the fact that exports are closed. They were focused entirely on the Russian Federation, and today their utilization is 10-30%. Everything else is idle. And this actually leaves more than 150 thousand specialists and their families without work, Viktor Medvedchuk said.
“I believe that the times will come when we will follow the path of lifting these sanctions, these unreasonable, I would say, just stupid sanctions that have actually ruined the economy of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian politician said.
Mikhail Mishustin emphasized that the absolute majority of Russians are very warm, brotherly towards Ukrainians and want the return of normal, good-neighborly relations.
“In fact, the sanctions were unilaterally implemented by the Ukrainian side. Unfortunately, not only against legal entities and individuals, but also against entire sectors of the economy. What did this lead to? By reducing the mutual trade turnover, sales of products to the Russian Federation decreased four times. We are in the process of import substitution, the vacant niches have been occupied by companies from the EAEU. As I said, we did not start these procedures. But I promise that we will carefully study all your suggestions and try to find a solution, if possible, ”concluded Mikhail Mishustin.
