The Hong Kong Observatory today said the city recorded a monthly rainfall of 708.8mm in September, about 116% above average and the sixth highest on record for the month.

The accumulated rainfall for the first nine months of the year was 2,246mm, slightly above normal for the period.

More than 70mm of rainfall was recorded in most parts of the city on September 30 as a band of intense thundery showers moved across the Guangdong coastal areas.

The Black Rainstorm Warning was issued as the rainfall exceeded 100mm over Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

September’s mean temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius was 0.7 degrees above average, with the highest temperature at 34.2 degrees Celsius and the lowest at 25.2 degrees Celsius.
