In the last few days, the number of new corona infections in the canton of Zug has increased significantly. The findings from contact tracing show that many infections take place at meetings with family and friends. The health department therefore urgently appeals to the population of Zug to adhere to distance and hygiene rules, especially in their private lives. The population can now actively contribute to preventing more stringent measures.
The daily corona infections have increased sharply in the canton of Zug in the last few days. The situation is tense and demands greater attention. “It must be possible to stabilize the number of infections, otherwise drastic measures must be considered,” explains health director Martin Pfister.
Private meetings as sources of infection
The contact tracing of the current cases shows that meetings with family and friends lead to a comparatively high number of infections. Due to the cooler temperatures, such meetings are increasingly taking place indoors, which significantly increases the risk of infection. “Loud conversations or even singing increase the risk of infection on such occasions,” emphasizes Zug canton doctor Rudolf Hauri. The Zug Health Directorate therefore urges all Zug residents to adhere to the well-known hygiene and distance rules:
Maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 meters from other people
Wear protective masks if the distance cannot be maintained
Regular hand washing, avoiding hugging or shaking hands
No participation of people who show symptoms
Further measures under review
In addition to this recommendation to the population, the Directorate of Health is also continuously reviewing other measures so that the spread of the coronavirus can be slowed down in good time. “We are at a crucial point in this pandemic. Now it is important not to let up, ”emphasizes Pfister.
