Two days after the severe bad weather in the Maritime Alps which caused significant damage, the armies are continuing their commitment alongside the Gendarmes and civil authorities (civil security, firefighters, etc.) to come to the aid of isolated populations.
As of daybreak, three helicopters (two Puma and one Caiman) from the Army’s Light Aviation School (EALAT) resumed their flights to deliver equipment, food and water to localities inaccessible by road but also for evacuating disaster victims. Since the engagement of these helicopters, 268 people have been repatriated to the cities of Nice and Menton.
In parallel, on this day, a multi-disciplinary ground detachment was deployed in the department. It started its work this afternoon and includes:
A reconnaissance detachment from the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (REG) from Laudun l’Ardoise (Gard) which carried out reconnaissance missions to provide information on the practicability of the axes and find land bypass routes allowing access to certain villages isolated;
A detachment of the 1er REG equipped with dump trucks and Rapid Protective Engineering Equipment (EGRAP), which carried out clearing work to clear the main roads in the Breil-sur-Roya sector;
A detachment of the 19th Engineer Regiment (RG) from Besançon, reinforced by a multipurpose section of the 3rd Marine Artillery Regiment (RAMa) from the Canjuers military camp (Var) and a multipurpose section of the 13th Demi-brigade of the Foreign Legion (DBLE) of the Larzac military camp (Aveyron), which carried out logging work in the same sector.
