In Krasnoznamensk near Moscow, solemn events were held, during which the commander of the Space Forces, Colonel-General Alexander Golovko, congratulated his subordinates on their professional holiday and presented state and departmental awards to the most distinguished servicemen.

At the command center of the 15th Army of the Aerospace Special Forces, the commander by video link congratulated the commanders of the military units of the Space Forces located throughout Russia from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka, as well as beyond its borders, on the holiday.

He addressed special words of gratitude to the military and civilian personnel who are on duty around the clock as part of combat crews. Today, more than 1,500 representatives of the Space Forces celebrate their professional holiday on alert. They perform the tasks of receiving, processing and analyzing incoming information about the radar situation in all missile-hazardous areas, dangerous encounters of Russian spacecraft with space objects, any changes in the situation in outer space, prepare and conduct launches of space rockets from the Plesetsk cosmodrome, carry out communication sessions and control of spacecraft of the Russian orbital group, including the International Space Station.

Among the main tasks facing the Space Forces of the Aerospace Forces is maintaining constant readiness for the use of missile attack warning systems, space control, launching and control of spacecraft of the Russian orbital group, as well as mastering new types of weapons and military equipment entering service with military parts of the Space Forces. Among the unconditional priorities are also the implementation of the schedule for launches of military and dual-use spacecraft, as well as launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The space forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces celebrate their professional holiday annually on October 4. On this day in 1957, the beginning of the Space Age was laid in the USSR – the first artificial Earth satellite was successfully launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome. The preparation, launch and control of the first satellite in orbital flight was carried out by officers of military formations of the Space Forces. That is why the date of October 4 is officially determined as the Day of the Space Forces.
