As part of planned combat training activities, servicemen of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District (YuVO) in Abkhazia are improving their shooting and artillery fire control skills in mountainous terrain.

During combat training activities at the Tsabal and Nagvalou training grounds, servicemen of the artillery units of the Russian military base practice group and individual tasks for topogeodetic, meteorological and ballistic training, reconnaissance, determining the coordinates of targets with the subsequent transfer of data to artillery crews.

When conducting fire control drills, gunners using Akatsia self-propelled artillery guns, Sani mortars and D-30 howitzers fire at targets at distances of up to 12 km, imitating armored vehicles, command posts and enemy infantry clusters. More than 30 fire training sessions were conducted, half of which took place in the dark.

In total, more than 500 military personnel take part in the training events, about 100 units of military equipment and weapons are involved, including the 122-mm BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems based on the Ural vehicle.
