At the Kirillovsky training ground, the wives of the servicemen of a separate Krasnoselskaya guards motorized rifle brigade of the combined-arms army of the Western Military District, stationed in the Leningrad region, competed in shooting from various types of small arms as part of the Fighting Girlfriends competition dedicated to the Day of Ground Forces.

On the part of the girls, they were supported by their husbands, soldiers of the guards unit. Under their guidance, the participants of the competition underwent a short training course on the basics and rules of shooting from a Makarov PM pistol and an AK-12 Kalashnikov assault rifle, and also trained in engaging and changing firing positions, disassembling and assembling weapons.

The officers’ wives hit targets at ranges from 100 to 600 meters with bursts and single shots. The score for shooting was set in accordance with the number of targets hit and the results of meeting the standards for fire training.

At the end of the shooting, the participants of the competition were presented with bouquets of flowers, certificates and valuable gifts, and the soloists of the orchestra of the guards unit dedicated a medley of lyrical musical compositions to women.

Servicemen of the separate Krasnoselskaya guards motorized rifle brigade during the Great Patriotic War participated in 18 offensive operations, liberated more than 700 cities and other settlements, and fought 1640 kilometers.

20 soldiers of the guards unit were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 3 soldiers became full holders of the Order of Glory, 15,212 soldiers were awarded orders and medals. In the postwar period, the servicemen of the unit took part in the restoration of constitutional order on the territory of the Chechen Republic. The personnel of the 133rd Guards Tank Battalion especially distinguished themselves, three of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
