(WASHINGTON) Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after the Merced County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) was announced as a Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) 2020 Angels in Adoption Honoree upon :
“Recently, upon my nomination, the Merced County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) was selected by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) as the 2020 Angels in Adoption Honoree,” said Costa. “We all know of the good work that Merced County CASA has done over the years in providing support for children throughout our Valley. Our children are our future. Sadly, many throughout the nation, including in Merced County, find themselves in harm’s way. CASA makes a difference. Congratulations to Merced County CASA and all those who support their efforts.”
The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) partners with members of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Caucus (CCA) to nominate and select individuals, families or organizations across the nation who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent, loving homes like Lisa Casarez of Fresno’s Angel of Grace Foster Family Agency, who Congressman Costa nominated last year. Each year, awardees travel to Washington, D.C. to both celebrate their hard work and dedication to the issues and participate in special events designed to engage them in using their personal experience to effect change on behalf of children in need off families. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this years’ honorees will be celebrated virtually.
“CASA of Merced County is extremely excited and honored to receive the Angels of Adoption award,” said Cathie Lancaster, Executive Director of CASA Merced County. “The timing makes this award doubly special as we are celebrating our tenth anniversary serving the children of Merced County this year. It is a great honor to be placed in such distinguished ranks as those of the past honorees. A huge thanks to Congressman Costa for nominating CASA of Merced County, the Board of Directors and staff of CASA of Merced County and our Advocates for working together for the best interests of the children we serve.“
