Bogotá (Sep. 30/20). In a debate in Commission II of the Senate, the Chancellor reported on the steps taken by the Ministry as a diplomatic channel.
In a debate cited by the Second Commission of the Senate to address the issue of extraditions and deportations of former members of the AUC, Foreign Minister Claudia Blum and the Minister of Justice (E) Javier Sarmiento presented the articulated actions that these Ministries have been executing to ensure that those who were extradited return to Colombia and respond to justice and to the victims.
Minister Claudia Blum explained the actions carried out by the Foreign Ministry as a diplomatic channel in these matters, transmitting the requests of the Ministry of Justice in relation to the extraditions required by the judges and the return requests that correspond to each case.
Foreign Minister Claudia Blum and Minister (E) Javier Sarmiento reaffirmed that there are three extradition requests against Mancuso that are being studied in the United States, all of them submitted in a timely manner and complying with the required formalities. They indicated that in the processing of these requirements, additional information requested by the United States on the particularities of the transitional Justice and Peace system is being provided.
Foreign Minister Claudia Blum ratified that the Government has transmitted to the United States on multiple occasions the priority of the return of these extradited to Colombia so that they fulfill their obligations to justice and the victims. During the debate, he emphasized “the importance that all branches of the State work properly articulated to achieve the return of these individuals to the country, so that they answer for their debts with our Justice, with the country and with the victims.”
