Accompanied by the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child in the Irkutsk Region Svetlana Semyonova, the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child in the Republic of Buryatia Natalya Gankina got acquainted with the conditions of detention of juvenile convicts in the Angarsk educational colony and SIZO-1.

Thirteen minors from the Republic of Buryatia are serving their sentences in the Angarsk educational colony. Another teenager is being held in SIZO-1. The plenipotentiaries visited the school operating at the AVK, walked around the classrooms, got acquainted with the projects implemented by the teachers and staff of the institution, and also visited socially important facilities of the educational colony.

In SIZO-1, the ombudsmen were given an extensive familiarization tour of the buildings of the institution, showed cells with improved conditions for minors and premises for keeping women under investigation with young children.

Natalia Gankina had a separate talk with minors who had arrived from the Republic of Buryatia. Greetings from home became a pleasant surprise for some of the teenagers. The Ombudsman brought programs from relatives and video messages. The guys were interested in how the republic had changed, they also wrote back letters to their relatives.
