An important step that must now be followed by others
Yesterday, at the school summit in the Chancellery, the federal and state governments agreed on further measures to promote digital learning. The deputy chairwoman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, Nadine Schön, and the digital-political spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, Tankred Schipanski:
Nadine Schön: “Yesterday’s meeting of the federal and state governments was another important step towards better digital education in Germany. Whether laptops for teachers, internet connections in schools or at the students’ homes – so far this is still too often a negative report. So there is a lot to do. And it has to be done quickly. In the past few years and months, the federal government has repeatedly made a lot of advance payments and will probably do so again after yesterday’s meeting.
The development of the past weeks and months has clearly shown: Whether schools are at the forefront of digitization all too often depends on the commitment of individual digital-savvy teachers who spend a lot of time and passion in developing concepts and even looking after the IT Invest on-site infrastructure. But that cannot be permanent! We now have to move digitization into the center of education policy. We will only succeed in this, however, if we develop a new educational policy model in Germany across all links in the educational chain. Schools, vocational schools, universities, but also vocational training and adult education centers are expressly included here. This is of course a political show of strength that can only be achieved across all levels. This is exactly why we need a federal initiative for a federal and state digital education summit. “
Tankred Schipanski: “The federal government is making billions available and thus providing extensive impetus for digital school education in Germany. In the Corona crisis, the support was increased again. Schooling is a matter of the state and I expect the ministers of education to take their responsibility seriously. It is your duty to pass on the decided assistance to the schools quickly. All that is required is a media usage concept. This is not a high hurdle and accordingly the decided equipping of the schools with tablets, WLAN and IT system administrators must finally get speed. The education ministries must finally allow digital learning aids and license them for schools. The modular online teacher training must also become the standard. Here, too, there are European models and extensive offers that are easy to use. “
