Tankers of the motorized rifle unit of the Southern Military District (YuVO) used the tactics of “tank carousel” at night at the Prudboy training ground in the Volgograd region in preparation for the strategic command-staff exercise “Caucasus-2020”.

In the course of the exercises, the tank crews fired at targets imitating the heavy equipment of a conventional enemy continuously from a place, during frontal and flanking movements within one run along the route.

The dynamically changing tactical and target environment develops the crew’s operational response and the ability to act outside the box when solving a combat mission.

The new method implements complex tasks for the crew. In particular, the maximum range of firing from a 125-mm tank cannon was increased by 200 m – to 2200 m. By reducing the target display time, the aiming time was reduced, and the rate of fire increased.

For reference:

“Tank carousel” – a tactic in which the first tank fires from a place, the second loads ammunition. When advancing the first tank for flank firing, the second takes a position for firing from a place. In this case, the shooting sectors, the sequence of raising the targets and the distance to them are not known to the tank crew in advance.
