Servicemen of the formations of the railway troops of the Western Military District, stationed in the Yaroslavl, Smolensk and Ryazan regions, celebrated their professional holiday – the Day of the Railway Troops.

The solemn events were attended by conscript and contract servicemen, civilian personnel, as well as veterans of the railway troops.

August 6 marks the 169th anniversary of the founding of the railway troops. They trace their history from August 6, 1851, when Emperor Nicholas I approved the Regulations on the composition of the management of the St. Petersburg-Moscow railway, in accordance with which the first special military formations were created for the protection and operation of the railway – 14 separate military workers, 2 conductor and 1 telegraph company.

The history of the railway troops is inextricably linked with the history of the Russian state, its Armed Forces, and the railway transport of Russia. All these years, military railway workers have made and are making a significant contribution to strengthening the country’s defense and the development of its transport infrastructure.
