Source: Federal Office for Information Security, Bonn, July 1, 2020, Germany took over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for six months today, for the 13th time. In addition to coping with the corona pandemic and its various effects, digitization is a declared focus of the German Council Presidency. BSI President Arne Schönbohm explains: “The corona pandemic has given Germany and other countries in Europe a significant boost in digitization . At the same time, it quickly became clear how important functioning and secure IT systems are for maintaining many areas of life and work. It is now a matter of sustainably expanding this surge in digitization and anchoring information security as a necessary success factor right from the start. As the federal cyber security agency, it is a requirement and obligation for the BSI to set priorities during the German Council Presidency and to continue to successfully design cyber security together with our European partners. Cyber attacks do not stop at national borders, so we also have to take cross-border measures to prevent, detect and respond. ”The BSI is also committed to strengthening information security at EU level during the course of the Council Presidency. The focus here is, among other things, on supporting the Federal Ministry of the Interior, construction and home, in promoting uniform minimum requirements in the area of IT security for all networked devices available on the European market. The BSI will also actively support the development of uniform minimum security standards within the certification framework of the European Cyber Security Act (Cybersecurity Act), which came into force a year ago. In addition, the BSI is involved in discussions to anchor modern security technologies (secure elements) for identification and authentication, for example in the context of the eIDAS regulation, not least because of the cross-border threat situation, cooperation at European and international level has long been a major one for the BSI Meaning. For example, the BSI works closely with the European cyber security agency ENISA and bilaterally with many European partners. In December 2019, the BSI sent a liaison person to Brussels, who is available to the EU institutions on site as a contact person for questions on information and cyber security -5777 Fax: +49 228 99 9582-5455E-Mail:
