Bogotá (Jun. 28/20). The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) held an extraordinary virtual session on June 26, 2020 to analyze the recent decisions of the Supreme Court of Justice in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, at the request of the Permanent Missions of Venezuela, together with the delegations of Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia and the United States.

During this session, the Permanent Council approved resolution CP / RES. 1156 (2291/20) through which, among others, “condemned the continuous harassment exerted by the illegitimate regime of Nicolás Maduro against the functions that Venezuelan laws grant to the National Assembly and against the operation of political parties and democratic institutions in Venezuela, contrary to what is established in the Inter-American Charter ”.

It should be noted that the Colombian delegation played a leading role in the process of drafting and negotiating the resolution, in addition to being a co-sponsor of it. The resolution was approved with 21 votes in favor, including Colombia, none against, 7 abstentions and 6 absent delegations.
