Government contracts for shipbuilding should be preferred to

The German Bundestag has adopted the joint motion of the CDU/CSU and SPD to the rescue of the German shipbuilding industry. To this end, Commissioner for Maritime economy, the CDU/CSU group in the Bundestag, Rüdiger Kruse explains:

“The shipbuilding industry is a future-oriented high-tech industry and important branch of the German economy, and must therefore be supported in the Corona-crisis. The objective of this application is to the shipbuilding industry by European law compliant procurement by public authorities, research ships, as well as

Marine vehicles to Germany to strengthen. In this way, the German shipyards will receive a secure income from the Federal government and the länder. It will also address which government orders may be preferred. In these projects, a greater number of innovative and environmentally friendly technologies should be promoted. The ships that are built today will determine the next few decades, the ecological footprint of the shipping. For all areas of state spending, you must serve the fulfillment of our sustainability goals – in the case of long-term effective investments, such as in the Maritime sector, this applies all the more. The already existing funding programmes, should be strengthened, and that significant private investment will be triggered.

In addition, be secured with the preservation and promotion of this industry’s jobs and economic growth. German shipyards have made in the year 2019, approximately 5.7 billion euros in sales. Overall, in the German shipyards and in the Maritime machinery and plant engineering employees in approximately 500 company of about 100,000 employees. The entire value-added chain consists of more than 2800 companies in Germany and around 200,000 jobs. A big step towards securing the German shipbuilding industry has been made by the adoption of the recovery plan already.“

Background: the objective of this recovery plan in relation to the maritime economy is to strengthen the shipping industry as a climate friendly means of transport, to modernize and digitize. The innovation is intended to support instruments in the field of shipping and with a total of 1 billion Euro of state support be expanded.“
