Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a theft by finding and subsequent deceptions which occurred in Brighton earlier this month.

Investigators have been told the victim, a 53-year-old Brighton East woman, left her handbag at a store on Church Street about 6.15pm on 9 July.

The woman noticed her bag was missing and went to cancel her credit cards and was informed that they had already been used.

Her bag had only been missing for 10 minutes.

Police have released images of a woman they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

Anyone who recognises the woman or with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
