Today, June 16, in a videoconference held a meeting of Minister of sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin and the Minister of sport and tourism of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Kovalchuk, which was also attended by senior officials of the two departments.
The sides discussed the holding in Kazan in 2020, the First Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the organization and holding of joint meeting of the collegiums of the Ministry of sport of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of sport and tourism of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the resumption of joint training and other events at the camps of Russia and Belarus.
Oleg Matytsin said that the First Games of the CIS countries was held in late August 2020 in Kazan, but in connection with the spread of coronavirus infection was made the decision to postpone the event for September.
“Games scheduled in the first week of September (tentatively from 4 to 11 September). Currently this issue is being coordinated by the presidential Administration and the government of the Russian Federation – said Oleg Matytsin. – I hope that by this time all restrictions with the arrival of national teams to our country will be removed. Of course, the Games will be held in compliance with all the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor, because for us the most important is the health of the people.”
In the First Games of the CIS countries is expected to involve about 3,500 athletes aged 14 to 23 years (depending on sport) from 11 countries of the Commonwealth. Will be played about 230 sets of medals.
The sports program of the Games includes competitions in arm wrestling, badminton, basketball 3×3, Boxing, wrestling and Koresh, water Polo, beach volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, karate, weight-wrestling, table tennis, swimming, Sambo, Thai Boxing, dance sport, fencing, Futsal, rhythmic gymnastics and chess.
Oleg Matytsin suggested to hold a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Ministry of sport of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of sport and tourism of the Republic of Belarus after the Games of the CIS countries, roughly in October 2020.
In turn, Sergey Kovalchuk has offered to hold a joint Board meeting in Brest, Belarus, that would be symbolic in the year of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the great Patriotic war.
In addition, during the meeting the sides expressed interest in resuming joint training events on sports bases of Russia and Belarus. “This is especially important in preparation for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo (Japan), which will be held in 2021, – said Oleg Matytsin. – I am convinced that the training experience will be useful to both countries. But specific dates for the resumption of joint training events, we will decide later”.
Oleg Matytsin invited the Belarusian side to attend the international forum “Russia – country of sports”, which this year will be held in early October in Ekaterinburg.
Sergey Kovalchuk in turn invited Oleg matytsina to visit the Republic of Belarus after the epidemiological situation will improve and there will be open borders between countries.
