The notched gates of the Museum-reserve “Tsaritsyno”

Unusual arch can be found in the Museum-reserve “Tsaritsyno”. The notched gate is one of the first buildings of the architect Vasily Bazhenov in the birthplace of the Empress Catherine the great, they separate part of the Palace from the Park. At delicate arch “is inscribed” a bunch of grapes, on the sides by two turrets with scalloped tops reminiscent of a Royal crown.

Before the decoration of the gate was even more romantic: vases, cupids and a pair of figures of pugs, one of them is now kept in the Museum of architecture named after A.V. Shchusev.

Red gate

The historic Red gate in Moscow, was built on the orders of Peter I on the occasion of the victory in the battle of Poltava. Several times they were burned, but restored them for special occasions — for example, for the coronation of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. There are several versions of the origin of the name of the gate: they could get it after the reconstruction, when the newly turned red, that is beautiful as well as because of the fact that was painted with red paint, or maybe just because were in the Red village.

In 1750-ies, the gate was reconstructed in stone by the architect Dmitry Ukhtomsky. But in 1927 they decided to carry, because they impede the movement of public transport.
