Representatives of the ministries of energy of Turkmenistan and Russia have discussed a draft Memorandum on cooperation in the energy sector. According to the state news Agency TDH the meeting was held in online mode.

“Preparation of a draft Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of energy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of energy of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the energy sector – the main topic of the online meeting held today in the Ministry of energy of the country”, – stated in the message ТDH.

The Agency noted “good prospects for practical cooperation and coordination cooperation between the two countries” in the power industry. In particular, we are talking about projects of construction of high voltage transmission lines of the Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan (TAP) pairing the power system of Central Asia, forming by 2025, the common electricity market of the Eurasian economic Union.

During the talks it was emphasized that “strengthening and diversification of economic relations with one of the strategic partners of Turkmenistan – Russia – is among the key directions of the foreign policy” of Turkmenistan.

In January 2020, the energy Ministry of Turkmenistan signed an agreement with the company TAPP-500 Power Transmission Line FZE, is a subsidiary of the Turkish company “Chalyk holding”, on the implementation of the project transmission line, which will run from the Turkmen city of Mary through the Afghan Herat and Kandahar to the Pakistani city of Quetta . To complete the construction of transmission lines is planned in 2021.
