Library customers will be able to borrow library items through an ‘order and collect’ service from 1 June.

Our order and collect service enables library customers to reserve library items, including books, audiobooks, tablets, videos and DVDs over the phone or online and select a pick up location.

The customer will then receive a reservation notice letting them know they can pick the item up at the front entrance of the library.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Council is focused on finding new ways for residents to use our libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We know residents love and need access to our amazing collections for leisure, for work and for study. Council is doing everything it can to make our collections available and accessible to everyone,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Not only is our physical health important during the pandemic, so is our mental health. Reading is a great way to exercise the mind and have fun in the comfort of our own homes.

“Order and collect is in addition to the vast collection of ebooks, emagazines, movies, learning apps and databases available online.

“We also expanded our Home Library Service to the entire community to assist people wanting to access our collections from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

“Council will continue to progressively open our physical libraries as it becomes safe and practical to do so. Order and collect allows more people to access the collections and is part of our staged reopening of our library services.

“The health and wellbeing of our residents is still our top priority. I thank everyone for their hard work in helping flatten the curve of COVID-19 in our community and for their patience as we transform our services.”

Council will disinfect all returned items and quarantine them for 36 hours to ensure the health and wellbeing of residents.

Library customers can collect reserved items from Bonnyrigg, Fairfield, Wetherill Park and Whitlam (Cabramatta) Library branches on Monday to Friday, 10am-12pm and 3-5pm and on Thursdays extended to 7pm. Items will also be available to collect on Saturday, 9.30am-12.30pm at Fairfield and Whitlam (Cabramatta) Libraries.

Please present your library card when you pick up your items. If you are not a member, membership is free and you can join online at www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/library.

Library customers can also access ebooks including bestsellers, e-magazines and e-newspapers from nearly every country, stream thousands of movies and documentaries, play games, learn a language, or learn something with thousands of tutorials in nearly every subject 24/7 from the comfort of their home.

The NSW Government has cautiously invited cultural institutions and libraries across NSW to re-open from 1 June 2020, requiring strict safety protocols.
