In times of the corona pandemic, it is a particular challenge to organize sports for children and adolescents under changed hygiene rules that are adapted to the current situation – also in schools. For many weeks there was no school and therefore no physical education in all of Germany due to the corona pandemic. But that’s only part of the problem. The Corona crisis has resulted in not only lack of physical exercise, but also social contacts and personal interactions. The lack of exercise, encounter and participation is still everyday life for many young people and exacerbates the already existing movement crisis in children and adolescents. It is currently not yet clear how everyday (school) life is made possible under the given conditions. In addition to re-entering the club-based sport, school sport must also take place again and be perceived in its importance for the promotion of physical activity and health. In addition, sports halls should be used primarily for games, sports and exercise in accordance with their intended use. We call for ways to be found in order to enable an eventful day-to-day school life, including the subject of sports and school sports. The Deutsche Sportjugend expressly offers its cooperation for this purpose. The German Olympic Sports Federation and the German Sports Youth ask the federal ministries of education and all those responsible in schools to take into account the necessary and indispensable physical activity promotion of all children and adolescents parallel to the opening of schools: to offer physical education again ! Education is more than math and German lessons. Physical education and school sports must take place again in a timely manner. The federal state ministries of education are now asked to include exercise programs and physical education in their plans to organize their everyday school life. Get all children and teenagers moving! Physical education and school sports are central and indispensable elements for the physical activity and health promotion of children and adolescents. They can and must be possible again. Since all children and adolescents can only be reached through school, they can only be moved there. Develop alternative exercise ideas – use exercise spaces outdoors! Alternative exercise and sport options can also be offered in physical education and school sports. Each school can initially provide the necessary outdoor sports and exercise options, taking into account health protection and hygiene requirements. As soon as it is possible again, physical education and school sports should take place in the hall again. Alternative movement ideas in small groups have to be developed for the classroom and in the school yard. Because if distance rules are adhered to, body contacts are reduced to a minimum, creative forms of exercise are offered outdoors and the hygiene rules are observed, exercise, play and sport must also be possible and implementable in a school context. Use cooperations with sports clubs! The schools should approach the local sports clubs and enter into new partnerships or use existing networks. The cooperating sports clubs can support the qualified trainers and trainers with their specialist expertise in developing good and creative solutions. Sports teachers can create digital movement tasks and offer digital sports lessons. Digital exercise and sports offers from sports associations and clubs can also be used or referred to. A collection of good, successful examples of digital movement ideas at home has been put together under #heimarena on the dsj YouTube channel. In the near future, #sportjugendarena will also offer good and creative alternative exercise and sport ideas for children and adolescents in the sports club and at school. A large part of the lessons will also have to take place at home in the coming weeks. But also in “homeschooling”, in addition to the tasks in other subjects, exercise homework can also be given as an important compensation for “sedentary learning at home”. Introduce moving breaks! Classes in schools should increasingly be held as moving classes. Moving breaks on predetermined, assigned areas of the school yard while maintaining the minimum distance must be made possible.Current studies (such as the MoMo study) show that even before Corona more than half of the children and adolescents had not moved enough. The current lack of exercise, which has been intensified by Corona, must now be actively, resolutely and jointly counteracted by school and sports club. (Source: DOSB)
