Press Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of the Intelligence and Oversight Committees called for a full investigation into the President’s firing of State Department Inspector General Steve Linick, purportedly at Secretary Pompeo’s urging, as Mr. Linick investigated allegations of Secretary of State Pompeo misusing department resources for personal gain and to sell weapons to Saudi Arabia without congressional approval.

“The President’s repeated firing of inspectors general without justification poses a continued threat to accountability in government and is a disturbing continuation of this White House’s campaign of eliminating truth-tellers,” said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi.  “I urge my colleagues from both parties to speak out against this attack on accountability in government, to protect the inspectors general currently in office as they pursue their duties, and to demand answers from the President. The firing of State Department Inspector General Linick is especially concerning in light of allegations that Secretary Pompeo urged the President to fire him as the Inspector General was investigating the Secretary’s alleged use of State Department resources for personal benefit, and much more alarmingly, his purported effort to sell American weapons to Saudi Arabia without congressional approval. While Inspector Linick’s tenure has been prematurely ended, these investigations must not be, and Congress must support the Engel-Menendez investigation to ensure the facts are followed where they lead and any wrongdoing is brought to light.”
