Updated the monument to Marshal Zhukov

A monument to the commander of the Victory Georgy Zhukov was erected at the building of the State historical Museum 25 years ago. Inauguration of the monument took place on 8 may 1995 — on the eve of the 50th anniversary of victory in the great Patriotic war.

The authors of the monument sculptor Vyacheslav Klykov and architect Yuri Grigoriev. The basis for the plastic solution of the monument formed the image of Georgy Zhukov on a white horse who took the Victory Parade on 24 June 1945. The commander is depicted Pristavkin in his stirrups astride the stallion Idol, under the hooves of which abandoned the banners of the Hitler regime. Bronze composition stands on a six-foot pedestal of red granite with a bronze frieze in the form of a Laurel wreath with the coat of arms of Moscow, and a commemorative inscription “Marshal Zhukov”. The area around the monument is paved with granite slabs, it also planted the flowers.

The monument to Georgy Zhukov was not repaired since its installation. From March to April 2020, experts have restored the pedestal, put in order the flower garden around the monument, reinforced the frame and cleaned the surface of the sculpture. They also eliminated the defects patched technological joints and cracks, caused the protective coating and performing other work.

“In March revealed the necessity of the bulkhead blocks the base of the pedestal. These units were mobile, and the seams were depressurized. Was also made the sculpture and the plinth of the monument: the restored frame, the work produced by the purification, preservation of surface sculpture,” — said Dmitry Stadnik, a representative of a company engaged in the repair and restoration works.

90 percent of the work failed before the introduction of the main restrictive measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. So the high alert has not prevented to finish all the holiday. On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the great Victory the monument to Marshal Georgy Zhukov returned to its historic place at the Manege square.

The quality of the restoration was controlled by Mikhail’s Fangs, the son of the sculptor Vyacheslav Klykov, author of the monument.

“Dad wanted to portray Georgy Zhukov, giving him the image of St. George. That is why the sculpture seemed to hover. And Georgy Zhukov, and St. George — the winners”, — said Mikhail Fangs.
