May 9 at the memorial complex “Eternal flame” in Khabarovsk, was held a ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers dedicated to the fallen in the great Patriotic war, the residents of the Khabarovsk territory.

The event started with a minute of silence in memory of all those killed on the battlefields of the great Patriotic war, and all veterans who did not live until today.

In the laying of wreaths at the “Eternal flame” was attended by the chief of staff – first Deputy commander of the Eastern military district, Lieutenant-General Yevgeny Nikiforov, the Governor of Khabarovsk territory Sergey Furgal, the mayor of the regional capital Sergey Kravchuk and other officials.

The event ended with a solemn passage of the guard of honor and military orchestra of the military district headquarters.

Historical note

The memorial complex built in honor of residents of the Khabarovsk territory who died in the great Patriotic war, the 40th anniversary of the Victory. On the semicircular wall of the memorial were inscribed the names of almost 19 thousand warriors of the far East, residents in Khabarovsk Krai who did not return from the fronts of the great Patriotic war.

Solemn opening of the memorial complex took place on 9 may 1985. The eternal flame was lit from the torch, delivered by armored vehicle from the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where he was in turn, lit the plant “Amurstal” from the open-hearth furnace was put in operation during the great Patriotic war.

In 2000, additional pylons was carved about 20 thousand names. In 2014-2015, carried out restoration work, in which were added new names of fallen soldiers.
