(Houston, TX) — On Friday, May 1, 2020, Congressman Al Green held a drive-thru food and masks distribution for Hiram Clarke residents and families. Congressman Green released the following statement:
“Today, I am proud to collaborate with my friends and colleagues on the community, state, and local levels to provide food and masks to 500 Hiram Clarke residents and families,” said Congressman Al Green. His congressional district includes the Hiram Clarke neighborhood.
This is the second drive-thru food and masks distribution Congressman Green has hosted in his congressional district within the last two days. The first event took place in the Sunnyside neighborhood, where Green, community leaders, local elected officials, and volunteers were able to distribute food and masks to more than 500 cars.
Additionally, he has participated in another food and masks distribution today hosted by State Representative Ron Reynolds (HD-27) at the Ridgemont Clubhouse, also located in the Ninth Congressional District.
He added, “I must thank Community Leader Vivian Harris for her steadfast leadership in the Hiram Clarke neighborhood for several years as well as Dr. Andre J. Lewis – Pastor of New Faith Church – for kindly providing this facility for our use today. I must also thank Council Member Martha Castex-Tatum (District K) for graciously furnishing masks and Commissioner Rodney Ellis (Pct. 1) for generously supplying debris removal. Additionally, I thank State Representative Alma Allen (HD-131) and State Senator Borris Miles (SD-13) for their valuable partnership at the state level and continued leadership in working to defeat coronavirus. I am honored to work with these dedicated community advocates and holders of public trust as I represent the people of the Ninth Congressional District in Congress.”
