Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC (April 24, 2020) – Chairman David Price (NC-04) announced that the City of Winston-Salem and the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem are the recipients of a $30 million grant to redevelop public housing and revitalize the North East Winston (“Newside”) community through the Choice Neighborhood Program. It was one of four locations selected to receive funding. In his capacity as Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (T-HUD) Appropriations Subcommittee, Congressman Price secured funding for the Choice Neighborhood Program.

“Every American deserves a safe and decent place to call home,” said Chairman Price. “As Chairman, I’ve prioritized funding for the Choice Neighborhood Program to revitalize our long-neglected public housing stock and raise the standard of living for entire communities. Choice Neighborhoods is the successor to the HOPE VI Program, one that I was determined save from President Trump’s proposed elimination because it’s the only program of this kind to provide comprehensive support for community development.  I’m pleased Winston-Salem will receive the $30 million grant and look forward to watching the neighborhood redevelop and thrive.”

The $30 million grant for the City of Winston-Salem was part of $130 million in funds awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development from funds appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2019 Consolidated Appropriations Act. The other recipients can be found below:
