The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is awarding the German Economic Film Award for the 53rd time this year. Film contributions can now be submitted online until June 7, 2020. Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier: “The German cultural and creative industries are particularly affected by the economic effects of the Corona crisis. Many small and micro businesses and the self-employed have large sales losses. At the same time, the creative industry has great potential to show the way out of the crisis with new ideas and business models. With our film award, we will again draw attention to this creative and innovative potential of filmmakers and support them directly and indirectly, also economically. We expect many entries in 2020 and look forward to it! ”The German Economic Film Award supports audiovisual productions that shed light on exciting aspects of the economy in the Federal Republic of Germany and prepare them for the general public. This makes the importance of the economy for Germany’s location and Germany’s high level of innovation visible and tangible. The (journalistic) transfer of knowledge about economic and political contexts in German society is promoted by the medium film. In addition, the competition contributes to the professionalization of artists and creatives in the film industry. In 2020, the competition was conceptually changed and streamlined. It will once again be awarded for outstanding cinematic performances in the following three categories: (1) Economy well explained (2) Economy well presented (3) Younger films The best young films will be awarded cash prizes totaling EUR 20,000.
