Source: Swiss Kanton Nidwalden News in German1. After the school year 2019/20 was recognized as a full school year despite the corona pandemic, the Nidwalden government council regulated the transfer regulations at the different educational levels. The grades will be adjusted and the date of the written exam will be postponed. On March 13, the Federal Council adopted various measures to combat the COVID 19 pandemic in Switzerland. The education sector is directly affected by the current ban on classroom instruction in schools. Due to the current development, various easing measures have been decided. According to the decision of the Federal Council, attendance at the compulsory school will resume on May 11th. Furthermore, the cantons agreed to adapt the form of the certificates and the doctoral regulations in the area of the elementary school by the end of April. The government council in Nidwald has now clarified these issues for high schools and vocational training in the certificate regulation. The elementary school still has eight weeks to attend the class in the current semester, which means that certificates, doctorates and transfers can be issued at the elementary school – with the necessary degree of proportion – on a regular basis. Only a note on the Corona exceptional situation is included in the certificates.GymnasiumAs it is possible to assess performance in middle school despite distance learning, the certificates can be issued at the end of the current school year. However, the doctoral decision is suspended. This means that all college students will be promoted to the next school year. However, those who received a provisional doctorate at the end of the last semester must definitely be promoted at the end of the first semester 2020/21. Otherwise, the student will be transferred back to school or excluded from school. Regarding the school leaving certificate, the government council adheres to the EDK’s recommendation. He waives the oral exams and maintains the written exam. “We are of the opinion that the distance and hygiene regulations can easily be complied with in view of the spatial requirements at the college in Stans,” says education director Res Schmid. So that the written test results do not count disproportionately, the government council provides for an adjustment in the weighting of the grades. Two thirds of the grades from the last school year and one third of the written Matura examination are included in the overall assessment. Due to the situation-related, short-term decision and in order to accommodate the high school graduates in preparing for the exams under these exceptional conditions, the exam date is postponed by around three weeks. With regard to the degrees, the Federal Council enacted the ordinance on the implementation of the qualification procedures for basic vocational training 2020 in connection with the corona virus on April 16. For the current semester, the final classes do not issue a certificate, which means that the corresponding grades for the qualification process are also not required. A certificate is issued in the non-final classes, and the assessment is subject to certain conditions. The doctoral decision is suspended – analogous to the regulation at the Gymnasium. As far as the vocational baccalaureate examinations are concerned, the government council is of the opinion that the same regulations apply in the entire field of vocational training and that all school examinations should therefore be dispensed with as specified nationally. However, the practical tests take place in compliance with the rules of conduct.
